The Psychology of Effective Activism

This workshop reviewed the psychology of effective activism for diverse audiences and time frames. The ABIASCA model was reviewed, which distinguishes 7 goals: awareness-raising, building sympathy, generating intentions, & realising actions (the four mobilisation goals), as well as sustaining motivation over time and in the face of failure, coalition-building, and avoiding counter-mobilisation (three goals for ‘persisting to power’).  Small group work and discussion was used to ground participants’ applications in the peace context.
